Imagine a new world, then build it. In this online workshop, explore creative frontiers by animating your own AR experience.

Transform your vision and memories of place, from designing virtual worlds in Spark AR, creating 3D assets in Blender, and incorporating open-source 3D models from the web.
By the end of this workshop, you’ll be ready to deploy your own animated AR experience and share them with the world.

Workshop Logistics:
Cost: $180
Experience Level: Basic 3D modelling experience
Requirements:
•PC/Mac with latest version of Spark AR installed and Blender 2.82a (or older)
•Spark AR Play app on Iphone/Android

Workshop Outline:
We’ll primarily be using Unity 3D, Illustrator Adobe Photoshop with a sprites-sheet generator plug in:
• Overview of interactive, animated objects and effects in augmented reality
• Intro to Spark AR’s workspace & importing assets
• Creating unique spatial qualities that can integrate with real world contexts in Spark AR
• Using the Spark AR play app to test filters
• Blender 3D modeling and texturing basics to create models
• Sourcing royalty free 2D sprite-sheets and 3D models
• Deploying projects onto social media or share with your community privately

Miriam Hillawi Abraham

Miriam Hillawi Abraham is a multi-disciplinary designer and artist from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. With a background in Architecture, she employs digital media as well as architectural and experiential design techniques to explore themes of futurism (particularly Afrofuturism and equitable futures), experimental conservation, vernacular architecture and intersectional feminism.
She holds an MFA in Interaction Design from the California College of the Arts and has received a BArch in Architecture from the Glasgow School of Art, as well as Part I of The Royal Institute of British Architects License.
She is currently working as the Game-code Instructor at Bay Area Video Coalition where she infuses social justice and futurism into her curriculum.
Her work has been featured in the Funambulist magazine and exhibitions across the Bay Area including the Institute for the Future, California Academy of Sciences, Hubbell Street Galleries.
